
Environmental Science
This major explores how natural systems work and how human activity impacts the planet. Students study ecology, geology, chemistry, and climate science while gaining hands-on experience analyzing environmental data and developing solutions to real-world challenges. The program prepares students for transfer to four-year universities and leads to careers in conservation, sustainability, environmental policy, water resources, and field research. Students can enter more than a dozen fields, including conservation, sustainability, water quality, renewable energy, environmental policy, and wildlife protection, making it one of the fastest-growing career areas in the United States.

Environmental scientists use tree rings, ice cores, and ocean sediments to study Earth’s past. These natural records reveal what the environment looked like thousands of years ago, so that we can apply that knowledge to today’s problems, and to protecting and reshaping the future.
